Here is a model of Old Town San Diego, a State Historic Park, that recreates the setting of California life during the Mexican to early American periods, 1821 to 1872. Its displays, historic buildings, shops and restaurants reflect the many cultures involved in the community's development.

A closer look at the model of Old Town San Diego shows how it may have looked during its original era. In the center is the U-shaped La Casa de Estudillo, which we will visit in more detail.

Here is a closeup of the model of La Casa de Estudillo, the most famous of Old Town's original adobes. The original building was constructed between 1827 and 1829.

The central plaza of Old Town San Diego, called La Plaza de las Armas, was the scene of many a fiesta and ceremony during the Mexican period. In 1846 the Stars and Stripes was raised on this pole, which tradition holds was made of a ship's main mast. In the back you can see La Casa de Estudillo.

The Colorado House was constructed in the summer of 1850. Originally used as a hotel, it now houses historical displays for Wells Fargo.

This coach #251 was delivered to Wells, Fargo and Co.'s Great Overland Mail stagecoach empire in April 1868. It weighs over 2,000 pounds and cost $1,250. It seated 18 people, 9 inside and 9 more on top

La Casa de Machado y Silvas building began as the home of the Machado de Silvas family in the 1840's. It has matured to the present, Commercial Restaurant, acquired by the State of California for this State Historic Park.
